Men’s Swimmer of the Week
Samuel Presgraves, Marist
So., 5-10, Leesburg, VA/Tuscarora
Presgraves placed first in both breaststroke events as Marist posted its first tie in program history at Southern Connecticut State. He swam to a time of 1:01.93 in the 100-yard event and clocked in at 2:13.54 at 200 yards. He completed the second leg of Marist’s 200-yard medley relay, which finished in second place (1:38.00). Presgraves helped score 22 of the Red Foxes’ 149 points at the dual meet.
Men’s Diver of the Week
Peter Gallino, Marist
So., 5-7, Watertown, CT/Sacred Heart
Gallino was one of three Marist divers to qualify for the NCAA Zone Championships when the Red Foxes posted their first tie in 38-year history of the varsity program at Southern Connecticut State. His score of 320.33 points in the 3-M dive was a personal best and earned him a spot at the national championships, which will be held from March 7-9 in Annapolis, Maryland. Gallino also placed second at 1-M after racking up 277.43 points, helping lead Marist to a 1-2 finish on both boards against the Owls.
Women’s Swimmer of the Week
Bethany Powhida, Marist
Sr., 5-6, Delmar, NY/Bethlehem
Powhida won one relay and three individual events as Marist picked up its sixth straight dual meet victory, defeating Southern Connecticut State, 169-120. She began the afternoon swimming the third leg of the Red Foxes’ 200-yard medley relay in a split of 27.24 seconds as part of a first place finish (1:50.35). She won the 100- (59.81) and 200-yard (2:06.50) backstroke events and also clocked in at the fastest time in the 500-yard freestyle (5:07.57).
Women’s Diver of the Week
Megan Berardelli, Marist
So., 5-3, Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon
Berardelli broke her own school record in the 3-meter dive during Marist’s 169-120 win at Southern Connecticut State on Jan. 9. Her score of 311.63 points at 3-M was 11.43 points higher than her previous mark, which she set as a freshman against the Owls last season. Her score also qualified her for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships and sparked a 1-2-3 Marist finish. On the 1-M board she scored 253.63 points to earn second place and lead the Red Foxes to a 1-2 finish in the event as part of their sixth straight victory.
