Men’s Track Performer of the Week

John Dove, Manhattan

So., Monroe, NY/ Monroe-Woodbury

Dove was victorious in both the 800 meters event and the distance medley relay over the weekend at the Spartan Regional Invitational.  The sophomore from Monroe, NY won the 800m race with a time of 1:56.50, and also ran the first leg of the Jaspers’ winning distance medley relay team who placed first with a time of 10:20.36. 

Men’s Field Performer of the Week

Blerim Pocesta, Manhattan

Sr., Staten Island, NY/ Susan E. Wagner (CCNY)

Pocesta placed first in the weight throw over the weekend at the Spartan Regional Invitational, winning one of the eleven events that the Jaspers’ were victorious in.  Pocesta’s throw of 20.39 meters set a new facility record at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex, and also put him in 15th place on this season’s NCAA leader board.   For his efforts, Pocesta also qualified for the USA Indoor Championships, which makes him the first active Manhattan athlete to qualify since 2004.

Women’s Track Performer of the Week

Lindsey Bellaran, Monmouth

Jr., Farmingdale, NJ/ Red Bank Catholic/ Clemson

Bellaran was victorious in both the one mile event and the distance medley relay event, as the Hawks won the Angry Birds Invitational for the fourth consecutive year.   Bellaran finished the one mile event in 4:56.09, beating out 15 other competitors while doing so.  The junior from Farmingdale, NJ also ran the third leg of the first place Hawks’ 4000 meter distance medley relay team, who finished with a time of 12:05.26. 

Women’s Field Performer of the Week

Marisa Robbins

Jr., Goshen, NY/ Goshen Central

Robbins placed first in the pole vault event at the Spartan Regional Invitational over the weekend at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island.  The junior from Goshen, NY cleared 3.56 meters to win the event, beating out ten other competitors.
