Men’s Swimmer of the Week

James Pokornowski, Canisius

Fr., 6-0, Buffalo, NY/Canisius

Pokornowski led the way for the men in their 153-147 Battle of the Bridge victory over Niagara University this past Saturday from the Flickinger Center. The freshman was victorious in two separate events, winning the 1000- and 500-yard freestyle events. He finished the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:04.99 and later won the 500-yard freestyle by 0.16 seconds with a time of 4:50.17.

Men’s Diver of the Week

Travis Wright, Canisius

So., 5-9, Derby, NY/Lake Shore

Sophomore Travis Wright collects his second weekly honor after winning the men’s 1-M event against Niagara University. His score of 312.90 was more than 34 points higher than the second place finisher. In the men’s 3-M, Wright came in third place with a total of 274.50 points. Wright scored a total of 12 points in the Golden Griffs 153-147 victory over the Purple Eagles.

Women’s Swimmer of the Week

Theresa Cotter, Siena

Fr., 5-9, Clarksville, MD/Atholton

In Siena’s win over Fairfield, Cotter posted a win in the 200-yard backstroke. She then led the Saints with two individual wins in their meet Saturday against Saint Francis (PA). The freshman continued her dominance in the backstroke events, taking first both the 100- and 200-yard backstrokes. She finished the 100-yard back in 1:00.75 and then touched first in the 200-yard back in a time of 2:10.18. Already the school record holder in both events, these three wins marked the seventh, eighth and ninth times she has finished first in a backstroke event this season. She was also part of the relay team that finished second in the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:51.75.

Women’s Diver of the Week

Hailey Beers, Siena

Sr., 5-5, Brockport, NY/Brockport

Beers swept the diving events in both of Siena’s meets this past week. In the Saints victory over Fairfield, she posted a score of 240.00 on 1-M and then took the 3-M with a score of 237.60. In a meet against Saint Francis (PA), the senior from Brockport scored a six-round total of 244.30 on 1-M. She rounded out Senior Day by setting a Siena Swim Center Pool record on 3-M with a sore of 279.85. She bested her own pool record of 271.15, which was set back in 2015. Her two first place finishes mark the tenth and eleventh times she has finished first in a diving event this season.
