Rider Duo, Chain and Warner Earn First Weekly Honors

Men’s Swimmer of the Week
Shawn Warner, Niagara
Senior,Lake Worth,FL/Saint Andrew’s
Warner broke the Niagara program record with a first-place finish in the 100 IM in a commanding 131-99 dual meet victory at Fredonia State College on October 7. His time of 52.91, which was also a pool record at Fredonia’s Steele Hall Natatorium, was more than a second and a half faster than the previous record of 54.56, set during the 2015-16 season by Andreas Rintel. Warner also took first in the 100 butterfly at Fredonia with a time of 52.74, and he helped Niagara to a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:38.65). Warner now holds seven individual records at Niagara in addition to helping set four relay records in his career.
Men’s Diver of the Week
Joe Warker, Rider
Sophomore,5’8”,Reading, PA/Wilson
Rider defeated George Washington 144-141 to earn their first victory of the season. Warker won both the 1-meter (317.48) and the 3-meter (265.28). Last year, Warker won the 1-meter dive at the ECAC championships and he also qualified for the NCAA Zone meet.
Women’s Swimmer of the Week
Alyssa Chain, Iona
Freshman,5’8”,Seaville, NJ/Ocean City
Freshman Alyssa Chain kicked off her collegiate career by partaking in eight wins over the weekend.
On Friday, October 7 against Holy Cross, Chain was a part of the 200-yard medley relay team that touched the wall first in 1:53.96. She also acted as a key part in the 400-yard medley relay team victory, the quartet touched the wall at 3:42.94. Chain chipped in two individual wins in the 50-yard freestyle (25.07) and 100-yard butterfly (1:01.22).
The success continued on Saturday, October 8 against Southern Connecticut State University. She repeated victories in all the same events: 200-yard medley (1:52.87), 200-yard freestyle medley (1:41.14), 50-yard freestyle (24.73), and 100-yard butterfly (1:00.03).
Women’s Diver of the Week
Meg Tomayko, Rider
Freshman, 5’6”,Murfreesboro, TN/Siegel
In her first collegiate meet, against George Washington, Tomayko won the 1-meter (233.70). She also placed second in the 3-meter (255.83).
