Monmouth University and Siena College Earn CollegeInsider.com Preseason Rankings

Edison, NJ – Monmouth University and Siena College have been ranked in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major top 25 poll. Monmouth earned the No. 5 spot in the poll and Siena was listed No. 22.
The Hawks were selected as the Preseason favorite to win the 2016-17 MAAC Men’s Basketball Championship. Monmouth received nine out of a possible 11 first-place votes for a total of 119 points. Hawks’ senior guard Justin Robinson was voted as the unanimous MAAC Preseason Player of the Year.
Monmouth is coming off a season in which they captured the MAAC regular season championship. The Hawks went 17-3 in conference play and 28-8 overall last season and were named a top seed in the National Invitational Tournament (NIT). Monmouth defeated Bucknell, 90-80 in the first round of the NIT.
Siena ranked second in the MAAC Preseason poll and received two out of a possible 11 first place votes for a total of 109 points. The Saints went 13-7 in conference play and 21-13 overall last season and went on to play in the College Basketball Invitational (CBI). The Saints return redshirt-senior forward Brett Bisping and senior forward Javion Ogunyemi, who were both selected to the Preseason All-MAAC First Team.
