New York, NY – The Erie BayHawks selected Shane Richards with the second pick of the second round of the 2016 NBA Development League Draft on Sunday afternoon.

As a senior, Richards earned First Team All-MAAC honors after ranking fourth in the league in scoring (17.2 ppg) while hitting for at least 20 points on 11 occasions. He also was among the league leaders in free throw percentage (.859-2nd), threes per game (2.5-6th) and minutes (36.3-2nd).

An All-MET Second Team honoree, Richards helped the Jaspers to a pair of MAAC titles during his outstanding four-year career and was the MAAC Co-Rookie of the Year in 2012-2013. The New York native also inished his career eighth in school history with 1,472 points while also setting the Manhattan single-season (92-2015) and career (312) three-point records.

Richards is the first former Jasper selected since George Beamon was taken in the 2014 Development League Draft.

NBA D-League training camp rosters will be comprised of players drafted today, along with returning, affiliate, NBA Draft rights and local tryout players and cannot exceed 17 total players.  Teams had to make a minimum of four player selections in today’s Draft and all players who were selected must be invited to training camp.
