Monmouth Field Hockey Climbs in RPI Rankings

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – For the third-consecutive week, the Monmouth University field hockey team earned a spot in the top-20 in the NCAA Rating Percentage Index (RPI) Rankings, climbing four spots to 15th in the latest poll, released Tuesday. The Hawks earned a 4-2 victory over Cornell in the non-conference finale on Sunday to finish the non-league slate at 9-2, the best non-league record in their 20-year history.

The RPI is a quantity used to rank teams based upon a team's wins and losses and its strength of schedule.

“To be No. 15 is a tremendous accomplishment for our program,” commented head coach Carli Figlio. “Our out-of-conference schedule, as always, helps prepare us for conference play.”

As a team, Monmouth currently ranks in the top-10 in five statistical categories. The Hawks are first in the country in shutouts per game (0.45), second in defensive saves (13), third in save percentage (0.795), eighth in winning percentage (.818) and 10th in goals against average (1.45).

MU welcomes Siena to So Sweet A Cat Field on Friday, October 7th at 4 p.m. in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener before traveling to Brooklyn, NY on Sunday, October 9th for an 11 a.m. matchup with new field hockey member, LIU Brooklyn.
