Monmouth and Fairfield to Meet in 2016 MAAC Field Hockey Championship Game

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – No. 1 Monmouth University will meet No. 2 Fairfield University in the 2016 MAAC Field Hockey Championship Game on Sunday, November 6 at 11:00 a.m. at So Sweet A Cat Field on the campus of Monmouth University and will air live on MAAC.TV.
The number one seed Monmouth University (6-0 MAAC) advanced to the championship game by defeating number four seed Rider University 3-2 in double OT.
At the 92:12 mark of the second overtime Kelly Hanna scored her second goal of the game to give the Hawks a 3-2 double overtime win against the Broncs.
In the first two minutes of overtime between the second seeded Fairfield Stags and the third seeded Bryant Bulldogs, senior captain Ann Burgoyne scored the game-winning goal for the defending MAAC Field Hockey Champions, Fairfield University to give the Stags the 3-2 win over the Bulldogs.
Monmouth and Fairfield last met on Sunday, October 23 at So Sweet A Cat Field. The Hawks defeated the Stags 2-0.
The winner of the 2016 MAAC Field Hockey Championship will receive the leagues automatic bid to the 2016 NCAA Field Hockey Championship. The NCAA Selection Show for Division I Field Hockey will air on NCAA.com on Sunday, November 6 at 10:00 p.m.
