MAAC Men's Basketball Set To Begin Conference Play Tonight

EDISON, NJ – The 2016-17 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men’s Basketball conference schedule is set to tip-off tonight with two games on tap. Rider University hosts Fairfield University at 7:00 p.m. at Alumni Gym in Lawrenceville, NJ and Quinnipiac University takes on Monmouth University at 7:00 p.m. at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, CT.

Rider University is off to a 3-2 start through its first five games, earning victories over Hampton, Hartford, and Wagner. Fairfield University has the best record in the MAAC in the early portion of the season with a 4-1 mark through five contests. The Stags got off to a 3-0 start and have picked up wins over Sacred Heart, Dartmouth, Wagner, and Army.

Quinnipiac University and Monmouth University will go head-to-head in the other conference matchup this evening. The Bobcats are 1-4 through five games and are coming off its first victory of the season. Quinnipiac defeated Indiana State, 80-77 in its last outing on Sunday, November 27 in the AdvoCare Invitational. Monmouth University is tied with Fairfield University for the most wins in the MAAC and has a record of 4-2 through six games. The Hawks are winners of three in a row and have earned victories over Drexel, Cornell, South Carolina State, and Holy Cross.

Conference play will continue on Friday, December 2 with three games on the schedule. Saint Peter’s University will take on Iona College at 7:00 p.m. at the Yanitelli Center in Jersey City, NJ. Manhattan College will host Canisius College at 7:00 p.m. at Draddy Gymnasium in Riverdale, NY. The third game of the evening will feature Marist College and Niagara University at 7:00 p.m. at McCann Arena in Poughkeepsie, NY.

On Saturday, December 3, Siena College will host Fairfield University at 7:00 p.m. at the Times Union Center in Albany, NY in the lone MAAC game of the night.

Action resumes on Sunday, December 4 for a full slate of conference games with four contests on the schedule. The first three games of the day will tip-off at 2:00 p.m. Monmouth University will host Canisius College at the OceanFirst Bank Center in West Long Branch, NJ. Quinnipiac University will face Marist College at the TD Bank Sports Center from Hamden, CT and Saint Peter’s University will take on Manhattan College at the Yanitelli Center in Jersey City, NJ. The final game of the day between Iona College and Niagara University will tip-off at 4:00 p.m. at the Hynes Athletics Center in New Rochelle, NY.

On Monday, December 5, Rider will host Siena at 7:00 p.m. at Alumni Gym in Lawrenceville, NJ. Teams will resume their non-conference schedules on Tuesday, December 6.  Conference play will resume on Saturday, December 31.

The 2016-17 MAAC season culminates at the 2017 MAAC Basketball Championships, March 2-6 at the Times Union Center in Albany, NY. The 2017 MAAC Men’s Basketball Championship Game will take place on Monday, March 6 at 9:00 p.m. and will air live on ESPN/2 with the winner earning the leagues automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
