Monmouth Women Take Home Third Straight MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championship
The Monmouth University Women’s Indoor Track & Field team earned their third straight MAAC Championship at the 2016 Indoor Championship, held at the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center in New York, NY.
The Hawks finished in first place with 205 total points. Quinnipiac University finished in second place with a total of 133 points, while both Manhattan College and Rider University finished in third place with a total of 100 points each. Saint Peter’s finished in fifth place with a total of 33 points, while Iona College followed close behind with a total of 29 points for sixth place. Marist College earned seventh place, finishing with 20 points, followed by Siena College finishing in eighth place with 3 points, and Canisius College finishing in ninth place with 1 point.
Lindsey Bellaran of Monmouth earned Most Outstanding Track Performer of the 2016 season. Bellaran finished first in the 800 meter event with a time of 2:10.29, finished in second place for the 1 mile with a time of 4:48.63, and was a member of the Hawks’ first place Distance Medley Relay squad, who won the event with a time of 11:44.68. Carly Timpson of Quinnipiac University and Marissa Robbins of Manhattan College tied for Most Outstanding Field Performers of the 2016 season. Timpson finished first in the weight throw with a throw of 17.55 meters, and second in the high jump, with a jump of 1.65 meters. Robbins finished first in the pole vault, setting a new MAAC record of 3.82 meters.
Other MAAC records broke included the 60m hurldes and the Distance Medley Relay. Jessica Lee of Quinnpiac tied the current MAAC record for the hurdles, with a time of 8.62. For the DMR, the Monmouth team of Jenna Cupp, Vanessa Dautruche, Kendal Hand, and Lindsey Bellaran set a new MAAC record with a time of 11:44.68.
Joe Compagni of Monmouth University was named the 2016 Women’s Coach of the Year.
