A new national survey conducted by Gallup shows that former student-athletes are succeeding in life after graduation. When compared to non-athletes who graduated from the same institutions, former student-athletes showed higher graduation rates, higher employment rates, and a better well-being.
Gallup surveyed 1,670 former NCAA student-athletes compared the results to 22,813 non-athletes who graduated from the same institutions. The results show student-athletes are more likely to graduate, get a job, and have: a purposeful life, a strong social network, a meaningful belonging to community, a healthy well-being, and a thriving financial situation.
“This Gallup survey shows that after the arena empties and the stadium lights go out, our student-athletes are using the important skills they learned on the field and court to achieve success in life,” said the thirty-one commissioners who are part of the Coalition to Protect the Student Athlete Experience. “The purpose of college is to get an education and this survey shows that our student-athletes are taking advantage of their educations and doing well in life, especially compared to other students who don’t play sports. We’re very proud of that.”
