2016 MAAC Women's Basketball Championship Field Set

EDISON, NJ – The 2015-16 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) regular season has come to a close as all eleven teams gear up for the 2015-16 MAAC Women’s Basketball championship at the Times Union Center in Albany, NY from Thursday, March 3 – Monday, March 7.

Quinnipiac University is the 2015-16 MAAC women’s basketball regular season champions. The Bobcats won its second straight regular season crown after defeating Iona College on the last day of the regular season. Quinnipiac won its final 17 games in conference play to finish with a 17-3 MAAC and a 22-7 overall record. The Bobcats are the first team since the 2004-05 Marist Red Foxes to lose its first three conference games and win out the rest of the way to earn the regular season title. That season, Marist won its final 15 conference games. Quinnipiac fill face the winner of #8 Canisius College and #9 Niagara University on Friday, March 4 at 12:00 p.m.

Iona College finished in second place with a 16-4 MAAC and a 20-11 overall record.  The Gaels will be facing the winner of #7 Siena College versus #10 Rider University on Friday, March 4 at 2:30 p.m. Iona was first in the conference in scoring defense, holding opponents to 57.6 points per game.

Marist College will be #3 seed and take on the winner of the #6 Manhattan College versus #11 Saint Peter’s University matchup on Saturday, March 5 at 12:00 p.m. The Red Foxes are 10-time MAAC champions. They are led by Tori Jarosz and Sydney Coffey, who ranked first and second in the MAAC in scoring with 18.8 and 15.4 points per game, respectively. The Red Foxes finished the 2015-16 campaign with a 14-6 MAAC and a 15-15 overall record.

Fairfield University finished the regular season with an 11-9 MAAC and 16-13 overall record to earn the fourth seed in the championship. The Stags finished in a three way tie with Manhattan College and Monmouth University, but held the tiebreaker. Fairfield University will face #5 Monmouth University, who finished with an 11-9 MAAC and 13-16 overall record on Saturday, March 5 at 2:30 p.m.

The Manhattan College Jaspers are the sixth seed and will face eleventh seed Saint Peter’s University in first round action on Thursday, March 3 at 1:30 p.m. The Jaspers finished conference play with an 11-9 record and went 14-15 overall. The Peacocks were 2-18 in the MAAC and 4-25 overall.

Seventh seeded Siena College will play tenth seeded Rider University on Thursday, March 3 at 11:30 a.m. The Saints finished 10-10 in the MAAC and were 13-17 overall. The Broncs were 5-15 in conference play and 8-21 overall.

Eighth seeded Canisius College will take on ninth seeded Niagara University on Thursday, March 3 at 9:30 a.m. The “Battle of the Bridge” rivals will meet for the third time this season. The Griffs were victorious in the two previous matchups.

The 2016 MAAC Women’s Championship title game will take place on Monday, March 7 at 2:30 p.m. and will air live on ESPNU with the winner earning the leagues automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
