Men’s Swimmer of the Week

Ryan Murphy, Marist

Jr., 6-2, New Fairfield, CT/New Fairfield

Murphy won three individual events and was a member of a pair of Marist first place relay squads in the Red Foxes’ meets against Seton Hall and Binghamton last week. In the home finale against the Pirates on Jan. 26, he won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:41.25 and came in second in the 1,000-yard event by .01 second. He also anchored the first place 400-yard freestyle relay team. Murphy competed in consecutive events in Marist’s 164-134 win at Binghamton on Jan. 30. He finished second in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:00.54 and had the fastest time in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:44.74. He placed first in the 500-yard freestyle (4:49.36) later in the meet and was the anchor of the 200-yard freestyle relay squad that clocked in at the fastest time of 1:26.28 to end the afternoon. The Red Foxes ended the regular season 5-5-1, including 4-1 in the MAAC.

Men’s Diver of the Week

Daniel Pires, Fairfield

Jr., Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford

Daniel Pires broke school records in both the 1-M and 3-M dives. The junior broke both records by scoring 336.90 and 327.40 respectively. He previously held the second best scores in Fairfield history in both events sitting just behind Taylor Stecko ’10 who had held the records since December 5, 2009. His scores also qualified him for ECAC competition as well as NCAA Zone A competition.

Women’s Swimmer of the Week

Meredith Wurtz, Marist

Jr., 5-9, Lafayette Hill, PA/William Penn Charter

Wurtz placed first in five events and anchored two first place 200-yard medley squads for Marist as part of victories over Seton Hall and Binghamton last week. She clocked in at the fastest times in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events with respective marks of 24.67 seconds and 53.74 seconds during a 172-123 triumph against the Pirates on Jan. 26. In a 181-112 win at Binghamton four days later she won the same two events and added a victory in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:57.97. The Red Foxes ended the regular season on a nine-meet winning streak and finished the regular season 10-1 with a perfect 5-0 record against MAAC teams. The six-time defending conference champion Marist Red Foxes extended their MAAC regular season dual meet winning streak to 35 in 2015-16.

Women’s Diver of the Week

Megan Berardelli, Marist

So., 5-3, Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon

Berardelli won all four diving events she competed in at Marist’s wins over Seton Hall and Binghamton last week. In a 172-123 triumph against the Pirates on Jan. 26, she edged her teammate by .45 points to win the 1-meter dive with a mark of 235.65 points. She took the top spot at three meters with 279.22 points. Berardelli racked up 258.75 points in the 1-meter event of a 181-112 win at Binghamton on Jan. 30 and posted a winning score of 270.90 points at three meters. The Red Foxes ended the regular season on a nine-meet winning streak and finished the regular season 10-1 with a perfect 5-0 record against MAAC teams. The six-time defending conference champion Marist Red Foxes extended their MAAC regular season dual meet winning streak to 35 in 2015-16.
