Killingbeck To Leave Iona Volleyball Program

NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Iona College volleyball head coach Jon Killingbeck announced his resignation Monday and will accept a similar position at St. Martin's University in Lacey, WA. The Puyallup, WA native Killingbeck returns to his home state of Washington after five seasons in New Rochelle.

"I want to thank all the players I have coached at Iona and the many amazing people I have worked with over the last five years. They will always hold a special place in my heart," said Killingbeck. "The opportunity for my wife, my newborn son and I to move closer to our families in Washington was not something we could pass up."

"We'd like to thank Jon for his excellent service to Iona and the volleyball program," said Director of Athletics Rick Cole Jr. "We wish him and his family luck in the next chapter in their lives."

Killingbeck spent five seasons with the Maroon & Gold earning 58 wins including 42 in MAAC play. In 2013, he led Iona to 16 victories overall and a program record 13 conference wins. The total surpassed the previous mark of 12 from the 2010 campaign. Iona advanced to the MAAC Championship semifinal while Alicja Pawelec,Catrina Warren and Natalie Ziskin earned All-MAAC honors. The Maroon & Gold also posted a stellar 9-1 mark at the Hynes Athletics Center. In 2011, Killingbeck secured an 8-2 mark at home and led the Gaels to seven victories in conference action. The Gaels were awarded with two All-MAAC selections following the season.

Assistant Director of Athletics for Compliance Ellen Robertson - a four-year defensive specialist at the University of Buffalo and former assistant coach Molloy College - will serve as interim head coach until a replacement is hired. A national search for will begin immediately.
