Ferguson, Mateescu, Marini and Chadwick named Outdoor Track and Field Performers of the Week

EDISON, NJ - In the second week of MAAC Outdoor Track and Field competition, Monmouth's Geordan Ferguson is the Men's Track Performer of the Week and Rider's Nicolette Mateescu is the Women's Track Performer of the Week. While, Joey Marini from Monmouth is the Men's Field Performer of the Week and Rider's Daria Chadwick is the Women's Field Performer of the Week.

At the 21st Annual Monmouth University Season Opener, senior Geordan Ferguson won the men’s 110-meter hurdles in a field of 20 athletes with a time of 14.97. Ferguson also won the men’s 400-meter hurdles, beating out 22 other athletes and crossing the finish line in 53.97. 

Breaking her own Rider record, senior Nicolette Mateescu finished 13th of 42 in the 10,000m with a record time of 34:45.34 at the famous Paul Derr Track at NC State in the Raleigh Realys, which is the 10th fastest time in the NCAA in the 10,000m so far this year.

Joey Marini notched two wins during Monmouth’s Season Opener. The first came in the men’s high jump, after he cleared 2.00 meters. Marini also won the men’s long jump with a distance of 6.79 meters which topped 17 other athletes.

At the U of Penn Challenge, Rider senior Daria Chadwick won the high jump with an ECAC qualifying height of 5’7.25” and placed second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.75 seconds.

The 2016 MAAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held May 7-8 at Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ.
