Niagara's Wong & Marist's Bjerke Earn Weekly Tennis Awards

MAAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week:
Shannon Wong, Niagara

Wong went 4-0 last week as the Purple Eagles swept Rider and Monmouth, 7-0. At the number one doubles spot, Wong and her teammate, Stella Peisakhova, defeated Rider’s Kelli Swanson and Caitlin Gardner 6-0. In singles competition, Wong defeated Rider’s Swanson, 6-2, 6-1. Against Monmouth, Wong and Peisakhova cruised to victory at the number one doubles spot again, beating the Hawk’s Adriana Armendariz and Kendal Kauffman 6-3. In singles competition, Wong defeated Kauffman 6-2, 6-0, improving her record to a team-best 9-5.
MAAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week:
Fredrik Bjerke, Marist
Sr., Oslo, Norway/ Nadderud
Bjerke won in both singles and doubles as the Red Foxes beat Saint Peter’s 7-0 last week. Bjerke won at the number one doubles position and the number two singles position. Bjerke and his teammate, Joe Motta, defeated the Peacock’s Danil Ivanov and Jorge Korenigung, 6-4 as the Red Foxes won all three doubles matches of the meet. In singles, Bjerke beat Korenigung in straight sets, 6-2-6-0. The Red Foxes now sit with an 8-3 record overall.
