Iona College Defeats Siena College to Advance to the Semifinals of the 2016 MAAC Women's Basketball Championship

ALBANY, NY – The second quarterfinal matchup of the 2016 MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship saw the two seeded, Iona College Gaels defeat seventh seeded Siena College 64-47 at the Times Union Center.
The Gaels were led by the duo of Joy Adams and Aaliyah Robinson, who combined to score 37 points in the Gaels win. Adams finished with a double-double, scoring 20 points and securing 14 caroms. Robinson finished with 17 points on six-for-10 shooting from the field. Marina Lizarazu, a member of the All-MAAC First Team scored 11 points and dished out four assists.
For the Saints, Joella Gibson scored eight points, had five rebounds and added two assists. All-Rookie Team selection Jackie Benitez posted nine points to lead the Saints. Symone Kelly posted seven points and added six boards.
Iona College now moves onto the MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship semifinal to take on the winner of third seeded Marist College and sixth seeded Manhattan College, which takes place on Saturday, March 5 at 12:00 p.m. Iona’s semifinal matchup against either the Red Foxes or Jaspers will be on Sunday, March 6 at 1:30 p.m. on ESPN3.
The 2016 MAAC Women’s Championship title game will take place on Monday, March 7 at 2:30 p.m. and will air live on ESPNU with the winner earning the leagues automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
