EDISON, NJ – Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) spring sports are in full effect as championship season is right around the corner.
In baseball news, Monmouth currently leads the standings with a 7-2 conference record. The Hawks took two out of three from Saint Peter’s this past weekend and defeated Princeton 7-3 on Wednesday, April 6. The Peacocks of Saint Peter’s University earned its first conference win of the year with a 8-7 win over Monmouth in the finale of their three-game set. Canisius, Marist and Niagara are all tied for second place with 6-3 conference records. The Griffs went 3-1 last week including taking two out of three from Manhattan. The Red Foxes also went 3-1 on the week, taking two out of three from Niagara.

Monmouth is in first place with a 7-1 conference record on the softball field. The Hawks swept a two-game series with Quinnipiac and Iona, while finishing the week splitting a two-game series with Fairfield. The Stags are tied for second place with Manhattan and Marist, all who hold a 3-1 MAAC record.

Monmouth’s Tionna Garner and Joey Marini were named women’s track and men’s field performers of the week, respectively. Brandon Allen of Iona was named men’s track performer of the week while Rider’s Daria Chadwick earned women’s field performer honors for the second straight week.

In water polo news, Wagner is a perfect 8-0 in the MAAC while Marist and Iona have six wins apiece in conference play. The Seahawks won all of its matches last weekend, defeating Marist, VMI, Iona and Siena.
