EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) met this past weekend on the campus of Saint Peter’s University for its annual spring meeting. A total of 20 student-athletes representing all 11 MAAC member institutions met in Saint Peter’s Mac Mahon Student Center to discuss topics of interest such as student-athlete time demands, NCAA legislation, MAAC championship operations, community service, and the NCAA’s upcoming financial literacy program.

“The April MAAC SAAC meeting, hosted by Saint Peter’s University, proved to be another fantastic weekend for our student-athletes,” noted Lily Rodriguez, MAAC Director of Championships. “From volunteering their time at the New York Road Runners Spring Forward Youth Series event, to having in-depth discussions on topics ranging from NCAA legislation, to on-campus community service initiatives, every meeting attendee was fully engaged and represented their respective MAAC institution in the best light.”

Prior to the administrative meeting, which took place on Sunday, April 10, 2016 the group spent Saturday morning volunteering at the New York Road Runners Spring Forward Youth Series event, held at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y. The student-athletes spent their morning setting up the course, organizing post-race refreshments, encouraging runners, and handing out participant ribbons.

Following their volunteer effort, the MAAC SAAC set off to Manhattan to spend the evening in New York City. The student-athletes enjoyed dinner at Carmine’s on 44th Street before attending the Broadway show, Finding Neverland.

The weekend marked the final meeting of MAAC SAAC Chair and NCAA D1 SAAC Representative, Emily Altier, a senior member of the Niagara University swimming and diving team. The NCAA will announce the appointment of the next MAAC National SAAC representative in the coming weeks.

“Special thanks and congratulations to Emily Altier of Niagara University, who led her final meeting after serving as the MAAC National SAAC representative for two years, and will work at the NCAA office after graduation,” added Rodriguez.
