Ferguson, Jameson, Kirby-Stewart and Blamon Named 2016 Outdoor Track and Field Weekly Award Winners

EDISON, NJ – In the sixth week of Outdoor Track and Field competition, we had the Monmouth Hawks winning three of the four weekly awards and the Iona Gaels winning the other final weekly award. Geordan Ferguson of Monmouth University earns his third Men’s Track Performer of the Week Award, while Monmouth's Tevin Kirby-Stewart won Men’s Field Performer of the Week. Tara Jameson of the Iona Gaels is the Women’s Track Performer of the Week and Faith Blamon of Monmouth won her second Outdoor Track and Field Weekly Award being named the Women’s Field Performer of the Week.
Geordan Ferguson took home second in the men’s 110-meter hurdle preliminaries, crossing in 14.33 seconds. Ferguson would later finish third in the 110 hurdle finals, with a time of 14.41. The senior placed first in the men’s 400 meter hurdles later in the day, finishing in 51.82 seconds and giving him his fourth 400 hurdle win of the outdoor season.
Iona senior Tara Jameson ran an outstanding time of 33:38.50 to take home first in the 10k at the Virginia Challenge. Jameson not only set a new personal-best but a new meet and facility record. The previous meet record held since 2014 was 34:16.28. The old facility record was 33:39.66 held since 2002. The time is also the 13th best 10k time in the nation this season.
Tevin Kirby-Stewart tied for first among collegians in the men’s shot put after he threw for a distance of 56’6.5” (17.23m). Kirby-Stewart later placed seventh in the men’s discus, notching a throw of 162’3” (49.45m) in a field of 20 athletes.
Faith Blamon took first among collegians in the women’s javelin throw at the Princeton Invitational. In the field of 25, Blamon notched a distance of 44.49 meters to secure the win.
The 2016 MAAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held May 7-8 at Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ.
