Seeds and First Round Matchups set for 2016 MAAC Women's Lacrosse Championship

EDISON, NJ – The seeds and opening round matchups are now set for the 2016 Women’s Lacrosse Championship with the regular season concluding tonight.
Canisius College (11-5, 8-0) will be the top overall seed in the championship and will have a first round bye in the 2016 MAAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship. The Griffs will host the championship semifinals and final at the Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, New York from May 6-8. Canisisus will face the lowest advancing seed from the first round on Friday, May 6 in the second semifinal at 8pm. Marist College (9-7, 6-2) earns the number two seed and will also receive a first round bye in the championship. The Red Foxes will take on the highest advancing seed from the first round in the first semifinal matchup on Friday, May 6 at 4pm. All of the semifinals and final round contests will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
Monmouth University (10-7, 6-2) will be the number three seed in the championship and will host the number six seed, Iona College (9-8, 4-4), in the first round of the championship on Saturday, April 30 at Kessler Field in West Long Branch, New Jersey. The Hawks defeated the Gaels, 17-10, earlier today to close out the regular season.
Niagara University (9-8, 5-3) has clinched the number four seed in the championship and will host the number five seed, Fairfield University (8-8, 4-4), on Saturday, April 30 in Niagara University, New York. The Purple Eagles edged the Stags, 9-7, in Fairfield, Connecticut on April 23 in the regular season meeting between the teams.
The winner of the 2016 MAAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship earns the league’s automatic bid to the 2016 NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship. The NCAA Division I selection announcement will take place on Sunday, May 8 at 9:00 p.m. on NCAA.com.
