WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Former Monmouth men’s lacrosse goalie Garret Conaway recently signed a professional contract with the Chesapeake Bayhawks of Major League Lacrosse.
Conaway is the first men’s lacrosse player in program history to join an MLL team.
“I couldn't be more excited to represent Monmouth in a Chesapeake Bayhawk uniform,” Conaway said. “It was a dream of mine to be able to play Division I lacrosse and go on to play professionally, and I'm proud to say that it has become a reality. I wouldn't have made it this far without Brian Fisher and the rest of the coaching staff. They gave me the opportunity to showcase my skills at the Division I level and I can't thank them enough for that opportunity.”
Following training camp, Conaway was placed on the Bayhawks’ practice squad and is eligible to be added to the 25-man active roster at any point.
“Our staff could not be happier for Garret and the opportunity he has with the Bayhawks to compete in the MLL,” Fisher said. “Garret is a competitor who is passionate about the sport and I am sure will enjoy playing with and against the best players in the game. We wish him the best of luck with his professional career.”
Conaway, the 2015 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-MAAC selection, was among the nation’s best goalies as a senior. He led the NCAA in save percentage (.614) and ranked third in the country in goals-against-average (7.49). Conaway was selected to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA)/LaxWorld 2015 Division I/II South All-Star Team after starting all 14 games for the Hawks.
The Bayhawks continue their 2016 season on Saturday when they host the Florida Launch at 7:30 p.m.
