Allen, Garner, Marini and Chadwick Selected for Outdoor Track and Field Weekly Awards

EDISON, NJ – In the third week of Outdoor Track and Field competition, we had three schools including Monmouth, Rider and Iona that had student-athletes chosen for the four weekly awards.  Brandon Allen of Iona is the Men’s Track Performer of the Week, while Monmouth’s Joey Marini win’s his second consecutive Men’s Field Performer of the Week, Tionna Garner is the Women’s Track Performer of the Week and Daria Chadwick of the Rider Broncs also won her second consecutive Outdoor Track and Field Weekly Award being named the Women’s Field Performer of the Week.

Junior Brandon Allen helped lead the Iona Gaels men’s team to a fifth place finish out of forty teams at the Colonial Relays by placing first in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a stellar time of 8:58.38.  As part of the 4x1500 relay, Allen helped take home first place with a time of 15:45.22.

Being chosen for the second week in a row as the MAAC Men’s Field Performer of the Week, Marini set a new school record at High Point in the men’s high jump after clearing 6’11.5” (2.12 meters). Marini also won the triple jump in a field of 21 athletes with a distance of 49’3.5” (15.02 meters) and placed seventh in the long jump out of 38 athletes with a 22’10.5” leap (6.97 meters).

Tionna Garner set a school record in the women’s 800-meter run with her second place finish of 2:06.64 in a field of 39 runners. Garner was one of the four women that set another school record at the Colonial Relays, as she anchored the women’s 1600 sprint medley team that placed first in 3:56.36.

In Chadwick’s second week in a row receiving the MAAC Women’s Field Performer of Week, she finished first in the high jump at the Colonial Relays with a 5’5” jump.  Chadwick also finished 10th in the 100m hurdles preliminaries and was the anchor for the 22nd place 4x100 meter relay team for the Rider Broncs.

The 2016 MAAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held May 7-8 at Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ.
