Red Foxes Sweep MAAC Weekly Rowing Honors

Varsity Eight
The Red Foxes finished in first place in all three races at the Iona Invitational this past week going up against competition from Iona, Fairfield, and Manhattan. Facing challenging weather conditions, 15-25 MPH headwinds and temperatures in the 50’s, the teams were able to finish ahead of the competition in all three events. The Varsity Eight was challenged initially by Iona but were able to settle into the middle of the race rowing a long and powerful 30 strokes per minute finishing at a time of 8:04:0.

Second Varsity Eight
The second Varsity was next and blasted off the line with two Fairfield crews. In a hard fought second race the crew sustained 32-33 strokes per minute while moving out little by little until the finish line. The second Varsity Eight finished with a time of 8:08.2.

Varsity Four
Marist, Iona and Fairfield each had an "A" and "B" four entered so this was a six boat race. Although the course was shortened due to the deteriorating conditions in the first 500m, the small boats from each team had all they could handle racing into a strong headwind. Marist A led wire to wire and finished with a time of 5:38.3.
