Event Updates
Fairfield
On Thursday, April 28 members of the Fairfield athletics department visited Classical Studies Magnet Academy in Bridgeport, CT. They took part in an afternoon of “Minute to Win It” games with the students who were being rewarded as part of their Positive Behavior Intervention program. This program gives positive points to students for being organized, being on time, being a good friend, paying attention in class, participating, etc. These extracurricular days are used as an incentive for students to behave well in school. The athletes and coaches helped facilitate these games/activities by demonstrating the events, helping children execute them, and cheering them on during this exciting afternoon.
Iona
ICWWP played in the Iona Lacrosse Dodge ball Tournament to help support and raise money for the Wounded Warrior Foundation. Our entire team split up to make three dodge ball teams and play in honor of the foundation.
Marist
Members of the Marist Men’s Basketball team attended the Teen Resource Activity Center in Poughkeepsie to share the Stay in to Win Keys to Student Success program with the youth of Poughkeepsie. The five-step program covers the importance of staying in school and uses the inspiration of NCAA basketball players to connect with youth, especially those who participate in the basketball programming at TRAC.
Rider
Rider partnered with local blood council for a platelet donation program. Student athletes coaches and administrators have began to donate platelets as part of a ongoing campaign to raise awareness about platelet donations and the benefits donations can have.
Saint Peter’s
The Saint Peter's University baseball team took to cleaning the streets of beautiful Jersey City. At the noon hour, everyone that could participate picked up a broom and various other supplies and walked the streets picking up any debris that we could find. Residents of Jersey City were coming up to us and thanking us for our acts. Not only was this good for the community, but it was also good for the overall team morale. At Saint Peter's we pride ourselves in giving back to the community whenever we can. This simple act by the baseball team shows good character, as well as a commitment to not only being good students and good athletes, but good people as well.
