Herzog Throws Shutout, Delivers Game Winning Hit in Quinnipiac's 1-0 Win over Manhattan

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY –Casey Herzog tossed a complete-game shutout for the Quinnipiac Bobcats, striking out five. In the top of the seventh inning, she delivered the game-winning hit when she drove in Erin Larsen on an RBI single with two outs.
The Bobcats will now face the winner of Marist and Fairfield on Friday, May 13 at 11:00 a.m. Manhattan will face Monmouth later on today at 2:00 p.m. in an elimination game. Briana Matazinsky pitched well into the seventh inning for the Jaspers. A two-out walk, followed by a bloop single and then Herzog’s game-winner would break the shutout she had in the circle. Herzog would retire the Jaspers in order in the bottom of the seventh to seal the win for the Bobcats.
The 2016 MAAC Softball Championship is a double elimination style tournament with the championship final taking place on Saturday, May 14 at noon. If the team coming out of the loser’s bracket defeats the team in the winners’ bracket, the second and deciding game will take place at 2:30 p.m.
The winner of the 2016 MAAC Softball Championship will earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Championship. The NCAA Softball Selection Show is on Sunday, May 15 on ESPNU at 10:00 p.m.
