Field Set for 2016 MAAC Softball Championship

EDISON, NJ – Following the conclusion of the 2016 MAAC Softball Regular Season on Sunday, May 8, the 2016 MAAC Softball Championship seeding has been determined.

Marist College is the 2016 MAAC Softball Regular Season Champions. The Red Foxes finished 16-4 in MAAC play to earn the top overall seed in the championship and will serve as the host institution. They will face the winner of fourth seeded Monmouth University and fifth seeded Fairfield University on Thursday, May 12 at 11:30 a.m.

Manhattan College earned the second seed after going 14-6 in conference play. The Jaspers will take on the winner of third seeded Canisius College and sixth seeded Quinnipiac University on Thursday, May 12 at 9:00 a.m.

Canisius College finished 13-7 in conference play to earn the third seed. By virtue of the head-to-head- tiebreaker over Monmouth University, the Griffs earn the higher seed in the championship and will face sixth seeded Quinnipiac University on Wednesday, May 11 at 11:00 a.m.

Fourth seeded Monmouth University takes on fifth seeded Fairfield University on Wednesday, May 11 at 1:30 p.m. The Hawks finished with a 13-7 record in conference play while the Stags went 12-8.

The 2016 MAAC Softball Championship is a double elimination style tournament with the championship final taking place on Saturday, May 14 at noon. If the team coming out of the loser’s bracket defeats the team in the winners’ bracket, the second and deciding game will take place at 2:30 p.m.

The winner of the 2016 MAAC Softball Championship will earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Championship. The NCAA Softball Selection Show is on Sunday, May 15 on ESPNU at 10:00 p.m.
