Shameal Samuels – Women’s Outdoor Track & Field – Senior
Shameal Samuels made history all across the month of May for the Quinnipiac women's outdoor track and field team. In total, Samuels became the school's first ever ECAC champion as she took down the 400m title at the regional meet wherein over 100 schools from all across the east coast convene for a three-day weekend event. She torched the competition running the 400m dash in a program record 53.35 seconds, besting the second place finisher by 0.92 seconds in the title run. Samuels followed that up by becoming just the second Bobcat in program history to advance to the NCAA Regionals for a second time as she appeared in her signature 400m event down in Jacksonville in the NCAA East Regional. She placed 40th overall out of the best 48 sprinters in the eastern region of the country. Her month started by going a perfect three-for-three at the MAAC Championships, winning her second straight 200m title while also combining to help the Bobcats capture their first MAAC 4x400m relay gold medal while also taking down the 4x100m relay title as well. Her efforts at the MAAC Championships helped Quinnipiac capture a third straight runner-up finish at the conference championships dating back to the 2015 outdoor season while the Bobcats totaled a meet-high seven individual and relay gold medals and also scored a program record 158 total team points at the conference championship meet.
