Tuscan, AZ - 2016 MAAC Rookie of the Year Fabian Pena (Miami, FL / Calusa Prep) has been named to the Collegiate Baseball Louisville Slugger Division I Freshman All-American Team after an outstanding rookie campaign.

"I am proud and thrilled for Fabian to receive such a great accolade," said head coach Jim Duffy. "Fabian has been a tremendous worker and leader from the day he set foot on campus and his team ahead of himself on a daily basis. For him to be recognized as a Freshman All-American is certainly a well-deserved honor."

Pena, who was also lauded as the 2016 MAAC Rookie of the Year, finished his first campaign with Manhattan among the MAAC leaders in batting (.350-4th), hits (75-3rd), doubles (22-1st), home runs (9-3rd), RBI (54-1st), total bases (128-1st) and slugging (.598-1st) while throwing out 51.9 percent (27-of-52) runners on the bases.

The Miami native capped his first season with MAAC All-Tournament Team honors after hitting safely in all four Jasper games with three multi-hit performances en route to batting a blistering .421 (8-for-19).

Pena is also the first Manhattan player to earn Collegiate Baseball Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American honors since Dan Forman in 2008.
