EDISON, NJ – Iona College’s Chartt Miller and Tara Jameson were selected as the 2015-16 MAAC Male and Female Student-Athletes of the Year, respectively. Both student-athletes excelled in the classroom and on the track this past season.

“Chartt Miller and Tara Jameson set a high standard of academic and athletic excellence,” notes MAAC Commissioner Rich Ensor. “Iona College runners have always excelled and the brand is well recognized for its success.  Chartt and Tara add to the record of achievement and I congratulate them on behalf of the MAAC membership for their success.”

“Tara and Chartt embody the meaning of a student-athlete with their success on the trails and track and in the classroom,” said Iona College Director of Athletics Rick Cole Jr. “Their performances are inspiring to their classmates and fellow student-athletes at Iona and we're extremely proud of them.”

Jameson, the Wicklow, Ireland native, completed a double MBA in financial management and information systems earning certificates in international business and business continuity and risk management while maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA. She also earned her undergraduate degree in finance from Iona’s Hagan School of Business with a 3.97 GPA. Jameson earned MAAC All-Academic honors 15 times as a member of the Gaels. The 2015-16 MAAC Female Student-Athlete of the Year also had many impressive accomplishments outside of the classroom. She earned two All-America honors at the 2016 NCAA Championship, finishing seventh in the 10K and 16th in the 5K. Jameson was the 2015 MAAC Cross Country Individual Champion, finishing the 6K race with a time of 21:09.09, winning the race by nearly eight seconds, en route to being named the MAAC Most Outstanding Performer. She was the Gaels top finisher at the NCAA Northeast Regional, finishing 38th overall. At the 2015 ECAC Cross Country Championship, she took home the bronze medal, helping Iona to a third place finish. Jameson ran the second fastest outdoor 10K time and third fastest 5K time in program history during this past season. Most recently, Jameson placed 14th in the 10K at the Euro Championships, representing her home country of Ireland.

Miller, a junior from Perth, Australia is a management major at Iona and finished the 2015-16 year with a 3.59 GPA. Miller was the 1,500M Champion during the MAAC Outdoor Championship. He took home the bronze medal during the MAAC Cross Country Championship and earned the silver medal in the outdoor 4x800 relay. Miller helped lead the Gaels to the 2015 MAAC Cross Country Team Championship, a second place team finish in the 2015 NCAA Northeast Regional Cross Country Championships, and a fifth place team finish at the 2015 NCAA Cross Country Championships. He also guided the Iona team to fourth place finishes at both the Indoor and Outdoor MAAC Track & Field Championships.

“I'm tremendously happy for both Tara and Chartt being named MAAC Student-Athletes of the Year,” said head coach Ricardo Santos. “They have both worked very hard and made plenty of sacrifices along the way in winning this award. I know it is an award that they will both be honored to have won and will cherish for a long time.”
