AMSTERDAM – Former Manhattan College track & field star Malin Marmbrandt represented her native Sweden at the European Athletics Championships on Wednesday.  Marmbrandt competed in the qualifying round of the women’s long jump and finished in a tie for 19th place.

After a foul on her first attempt, Marmbrandt got out to 6.33 meters (20 feet, 9¼ inches) in the second round.  Her final jump was close to the automatic qualifying distance of 6.60 m (21’8).  However, that mark was also judged to be a foul and didn’t count.  Marmbrandt was one of four jumpers whose best legal distance was 6.33 m.  Officially, she was credited for a 19th-place tie with teammate Erica Jarder.

This was Marmbrandt’s European Championships debut, and it marked the second time she was a member of the Swedish team in continental competition.  Marmbrandt took part in the women’s triple jump at the 2015 European Athletics Team Championships in Cheboksary, Russia.

A 2010 graduate, she is still Manhattan’s outdoor school record-holder in the long jump (6.30 m, 20’8).
