Wilson Offensive Player of the Week

Camille Bowen, Marist

Jr., M, Goshen, NY/Goshen HS

Camille Bowen recorded just the fourth hat trick in program history Saturday evening in the Red Foxes 2016 season opener. The junior midfielder scored from all over the field, netting Marist’s first, third and fourth goals to spur the Red Foxes to a 4-2 victory over Vermont. Bowen was able to capitalize on goals from two free kicks and a penalty kick. Her first goal from over 30 yards out tied the game at 1-1 when it found the back of the net after it curled over the Vermont keeper’s outstretched glove. Her second goal came 11 minutes into the second half after a handball in the box awarded Marist a PK. Bowen calmly knocked it home and gave Marist a 3-1 lead. Her final goal came just a minute after Vermont had brought the deficit back to within one. Another free kick, this time from just outside the top of the box was rifled into the upper half of the net, giving the Red Foxes a two goal cushion and one they’d eventually hold onto. Bowen finished the game with four shots.

Wilson Defensive Player of the Week

Shania van Nuland, Niagara

So., GK, Vinkel, the Netherlands/SC Buitenveldert

Shania van Nuland (0-1-1) made her first collegiate start, and recorded her first shutout, against Michigan State on Friday, August 19. She had a career-high four saves and kept the Spartans scoreless through 90 minutes of regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods. She had a perfect 1.000 save percentage. In the Purple Eagles’ home opener against Binghamton on Sunday, August 21, van Nuland once again started in the goal and tied her career-high four saves, with three coming in the second half of the game. She only allowed one goal through both games.

Wilson Rookie of the Week

Olivia Myszewski, Quinnipiac

Fr., GK, Elm Grove, Wisconsin/Divine Savior Holy Angels

Starting her first collegiate game, freshman keeper Olivia Myszewski made quite the early impression as she notched seven saves in goal to record her first career victory in the cage for the Bobcats. Among her seven saves included a key one late in the closing minutes to preserve the 2-1 win over Toledo. Just four minutes after Al Pelletier came up with the go-ahead goal for the Bobcats in the 82nd minute, a header headed for the far post from just inside the top of the six-yard box was met with Myszewski’s glove as she stayed on her line and read the header perfectly, making a diving save to preserve the win. She also was tested early as she had three saves in the opening seven minutes before the Bobcats were able to settle in. She also had a spectacular save early in the second half with the score 0-0 to deny Kiersten Johnson on a 15-yard blast on a counter, tipping the hard shot just over the crossbar.
