Offensive Player of the Week
Alyssa Ercolino, Monmouth
Sr., M, West Long Branch, NJ/Shore Regional
Alyssa Ercolino led the Monmouth field hockey team to a two-win weekend, helping the Hawks start 2-0 for the first time since 2009. The senior midfielder scored three times over the weekend, including her fourth career multi-goal game at Lehigh. The local product got the Hawks on the board less than two minutes into the season against VCU, tipping in a shot off a corner. Two days later, Ercolino, who started her 60th career game, deflected in a pair of second-half goals to help Monmouth run away with a 5-0 victory against the Mountain Hawks.
Defensive Player of the Week
Julie Laszlo, Monmouth
Jr., D, Rotterdam, The Netherlands/Rotterdams Montessori Lyceum
After only playing in six games last year, Julie Laszlo made her return to the lineup and contributed on both sides of the field for the Hawks. The junior helped the defensive unit limit VCU and Lehigh to a combined 16 shots, seven corner opportunities and one goal in 140 minutes of action. Laszlo also found the scoresheet, posting five points on a goal and three assists, including two helpers in MU’s 5-0 win at Lehigh.
Rookie of the Week
Tess Coorens, Rider
Fr., M/F, Leiden, Netherlands/Visser 't Hooft Lyceum
Coorens started both games to open her collegiate career as Rider went 1-1 to open the 2016 season. In a 6-0 win at Towson on August 28, Coorens had two goals, helping the Broncs to the road win. Coorens only had two shots in the game and scored on both of them.
