EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has announced Quinnipiac University’s honorees to be inducted in the MAAC Honor Roll. The honorees will be enshrined in “The MAAC Experience” exhibit at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on October 15.

Each member institution of the MAAC honors one male and one female from its basketball “family” as part of the 2016 induction class. A dinner event will be on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame Court of Dreams to recognize the Honor Roll inductees.

Each honoree will be profiled in the game program for the 2017 MAAC Basketball Championships, and will also be featured in a video display at “The MAAC Experience.”

Rob Monroe (2001-05) Quinnipiac University

Rob Monroe had a big role in helping Quinnipiac establish itself at the Division I level in its early years after making the jump from Division II. He was an All-Rookie team selection in his freshman year in the Northeast Conference in 2001-02 (the program's fourth year in Division I), and went on to earn second-team honors as a junior and first-team honors as a senior. During his final campaign at Quinnipiac, he averaged 22.7 points and 6.5 assists per game, which both still hold as the program's Division I records.

Monroe finished his career at Quinnipiac with 1,685 points, which ranks in the top 10 in school history (ninth), including second among Division I players. His 541 career assists is third all-time at Quinnipiac and first in Division I, while his 253 career three-pointers remains the school record at any level. He twice had 40-point games, including 41 against Longwood and 40 against Sacred Heart, the only Bobcat to reach that plateau since the program moved to Division I. Monroe went on to play professionally in Turkey after concluding his Quinnipiac career in 2005 and was inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013.

Queen Edwards Smith (1991-95) Quinnipiac University

Leading the then-Quinnipiac Braves throughout the early 1990s, Queen Edwards finished a stellar four-year career as a standout guard. Standing at just five-foot-five, Edwards finished her career with over 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 400 assists and 300 steals. She wrapped up her time in Hamden with 1,207 points, graduating in 1995 as the 10th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point plateau. A two-time Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Year (1992-93, 1993-94), Edwards made a name for herself as an elite defender, ranking second on Quinnipiac's all-time career steals list with 394. Across her four years, Edwards averaged 3.8 steals per game while she rebounded very well for her size and position, averaging 5.8 rebounds per game. Edwards broke out with a career-year in 1992-93 as she was named to the NE-10 Second Team after averaging 16.7 points, 6.2 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 4.4 steals in 35.8 minutes while starting all 27 games for Quinnipiac.

She currently ranks 20th all-time at Quinnipiac in scoring (1,207), third in assists (476) and second in steals (394). A distinguished local standout hailing from New Haven, Edwards starred for Hillhouse High School as she was named First Team All-State in Connecticut twice during her high school career, averaging 15 points, 10 assists and six rebounds per game across her career. A three-sport athlete in high school, Edwards was an All-District performer in volleyball and was All-State in track (4x100m, 4x400m) during her senior year.
