Dally, Thorne named Student-Athletes of the Week

Kori Thorne

Kori Thorne is one of the most dynamic student-athletes at Niagara University. Thorne is an instrumental member of the women’s soccer team where she is a three-year starter in the midfield, but is also extremely involved in extracurricular activities. She was one of two Niagara University students selected to present at the Eastern Colleges of Science Conference last year for “Outstanding Research and Presentation” on “Synergistic Apoptosis of Curcumin and Photodynamic Therapy on Caspase Cascade Pathways in HeLa and CAL-27 Cancer Cell Lines”. Thorne is the founder and president of Niagara University Against Cancer and was the event chair of Relay for Life. She is a member of Beta Beta Beta (Biology Society), the America Chemical Society and Delta Epsilon Sigma National Honor Society, while also being tabbed as the top student-athlete in the department of biology. Thorne graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2016 with a degree in Biology. She deferred admittance into medical school to enroll for her MBA with a focus in healthcare administration. Thorne is also teaching in the biology department this year. Thorne, a two-time captain, has earned MAAC All-Academic honors every season she has been eligible.
Rashawn Dally
Men’s Soccer | Sophomore | Forward | 6-2 | Bloomfield, CT | Watkinson School
Dally has a team-leading two assists so far in 2016, both coming in a 2-0 home win over Lafayette on Sept. 4. On the first assist, Dally was able to pass the ball to Eamon Whelan using the back of his heel to help make it 1-0 Quinnipiac. Dally started the play that resulted in the Bobcats’ second goal, streaking up the left side of the field with the ball and delivering a perfect cross to Matthew Taylor, who finished the play to give Quinnipiac a two-goal lead.
Dally also earned a spot on the Jamaican National Under-20 Team this past summer, playing in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) U-20 Qualifiers in June. Jamaica went 2-1 in qualifiers with wins over host Dominican Republic and Dominica.
