Richard "Dick" Kuchen & Linda DiGiuseppantonio Genther Named Rider University's 2016 MAAC Honor Roll Inductees
MAAC Sports
EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has announced Rider University’s honorees to be inducted in the MAAC Honor Roll. The honorees will be enshrined in “The MAAC Experience” exhibit at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on October 15.
Each member institution of the MAAC honors one male and one female from its basketball “family” as part of the 2016 induction class. A dinner event will be on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame Court of Dreams to recognize the Honor Roll inductees.
Each honoree will be profiled in the game program for the 2017 MAAC Basketball Championships, and will also be featured in a video display at “The MAAC Experience.”
Richard “Dick” Kuchen (1963-66) Rider University
Dick Kuchen graduated in 1966 as the Rider career leader in rebounds (822, 11.1 per game) and was fifth in career scoring (1,127 points, 15.2 ppg). A member of the 1963 Rider team that beat national powerhouse NYU (Kuchen made the winning foul shots in the 66-63 upset), Kuchen was drafted by the St. Louis Hawks of the NBA. As a coach he went to the Final Four as an assistant at Notre Dame, and was a head coach for over 20 years at Cal-Berkley (80 wins) and Yale (151 wins).
Linda DiGiuseppantonio Genther (1983-87) Rider University
Linda DiGiuseppantonio Genther graduated from Rider fifth on the Rider career scoring list with 1,090 points, and third on the career assist list with 329. She led Rider to a first-ever East Coast Conference final four as a junior in 1985-86, earning ECC All-Tournament Team Honors. She was named All-ECC as a junior and as a senior. Linda was just the fifth Lady Bronc to ever reach the 1,000 point milestone. As a junior Linda made 136 field goals and averaged 14.1 points per game. Of those made field goals over 100 were made from what would now be three-point range. In the conference tournament, behind the play of All-ECC guard Linda D., Rider upset Towson State in the quarterfinals to reach the ECC Final Four for the first time ever. Linda became the first Lady Bronc to ever be named to the ECC All-Tournament team.
