MAAC Announces 2016-17 Women's Basketball Schedule

EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has released the women’s basketball conference schedule for the 2016-17 season, announced today by the league office.
With 11 MAAC teams, each team will continue to play 20 league games, facing each team twice in the double round-robin format (“home-and-home”).
Notable matchups from the upcoming 2016-17 season include:
· The first league game of the season, which will feature Manhattan College hosting Marist College on Tuesday, November 29 at Draddy Gymnasium in Riverdale, NY.
· The 2015-16 MAAC Women’s Basketball Champions, Quinnipiac University will face Iona College on Saturday, January 28 at the Hynes Athletic Center in New Rochelle, NY in a championship rematch from a season ago. The Gaels will travel to Hamden, Connecticut on Friday, February 17 to face the Bobcats at the TD Bank Sports Center.
· Canisius College and Niagara University meet on Wednesday, January 18 for the first game of the “Battle of the Bridge” rivalry when the two Western New York schools square off at the Gallagher Center on the campus of Niagara University. The two rival schools will play again on Friday, February 10 on Canisius’ home court, the Koessler Athletic Center.
· The “hOUR-glass” rivalry between the New Jersey schools of Monmouth University, Rider University, and Saint Peter’s University will begin on Saturday, January 7, with Monmouth hosting Saint Peter’s at the OceanFirst Bank Center in West Long Branch. The rivalry will continue when Saint Peter’s hosts Rider on Thursday, Jan. 19 in Jersey City, followed by Rider hosting Saint Peter’s on Saturday, January 28. On Thursday, February 2, Monmouth will host Rider. Eight days later on Friday, February 10 Saint Peter’s welcomes Monmouth to The Yanitelli Center. On Tuesday, February 21 Rider will face Monmouth in Lawrenceville at Alumni Gymnasium
· Connecticut rivals, Fairfield University and Quinnipiac University meet for the first time in 2017 on Monday, January 16, the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden and matchup again on Thursday, February 2, at Alumni Hall on the campus of Fairfield
· Iona College and Manhattan College, two New York City rivals, continue its rivalry on Friday, December 2 in New Rochelle at Iona. The Manhattan Jaspers to welcome Iona to Draddy Gymnasium on Friday, January 20
· Marist College and Siena College will battle at McCann Arena in Poughkeepsie, New York on Thursday, January 20 The return matchup takes place on Wednesday, February 1 when Marist heads to Loudonville, New York to take on the Saints at the Alumni Recreation Center.
The full 2016-17 MAAC television broadcast schedule will be announced on a later date.
The MAAC season concludes with the 2017 MAAC Basketball Championships, March 2-6, at the Times Union Center in Albany, New York. The 2017 MAAC Championship title game will take place on Monday, March 6 at 5:00 p.m. and will air live on ESPNU with the winner earning the leagues automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
