Player of the Week

Kaitlyn Fisher, Fairfield

So., RS, Plainfield, IL/ Plainfield North High School

Kaitlyn Fisher entered the starting lineup and instantly became a driving force in the Stags’ 3-0 week, which included a 2-0 start to MAAC play. Fisher averaged 2.42 kills per set with a scorching .444 hitting percentage (29-5-54). She was equally as effective defensively, piling up 1.17 blocks per set. Fisher opened the week with a career-high 15 kills on .636 hitting (15-1-22) to go along with eight blocks in a breakout performance as the Stags’ upset Big East foe St. John’s in five sets. She followed up with three kills, three digs and three blocks in Fairfield’s sweep of Saint Peter’s on Saturday. Fisher capped the week with 11 kills on .526 hitting (11-1-19) with four digs and three blocks in the four-set win at Rider.

Libero of the Week

Allie Yamashiro, Manhattan

Sr., Libero, Kapolei, HI/Kamehameha

Yamashiro averaged 5.06 digs and 1.69 assists in four Manhattan victories last week.  In the MAAC opener against Iona on Wednesday night, she recorded her first career double-double with 25 digs and six assists.  She was also credited with a kill in the 3-1 win.  Yamashiro then earned a place on the Lafayette Invitational All-Tournament Team over the weekend.  After posting 18 digs and five assists against St. Francis Brooklyn on Friday, she finished with 21 digs and seven assists in the win over Lafayette on Saturday morning.  Yamashiro concluded the tournament with a 17-dig effort in a four-set win over NJIT on Saturday night that clinched the tournament title for the Jaspers.

Rookie of the Week

Megan Fergus, Marist

Fr., MB/OH, Millbrook, NY/Millbrook

Fergus swatted 37 kills, averaging 2.85 per set, and hit .312 in three matches for Marist this week. In the Red Foxes’ MAAC opening 3-2 win against Canisius on Sept. 17, she had 15 kills and a pair of blocks. She slammed 15 kills for the third time this season, with four coming in the final frame, against Niagara the next day. Fergus also posted career highs of five digs and three total blocks in the five-set Marist victory over the Purple Eagles. Fergus is currently second on the Red Foxes with 93 kills this season.
