EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Commissioner Rich Ensor has announced the addition of Robert DeVita as Director of New Media/Communications to the MAAC staff.
“I’m pleased to welcome Robert DeVita to the MAAC staff as the Director of New Media,” notes Ensor. “Rob’s experience at St. Francis Brooklyn covering women’s basketball will be beneficial to the league as he takes on that responsibility in the MAAC, including hosting the 2018 NCAA Regional at the Times Union Center in Albany, NY.”
DeVita comes to the MAAC from the New York Mets, where he served as a Media Relations Associate. While with the Mets, he worked as a liaison between the media and the organization providing credentials and statistical information. In his time with the Mets, DeVita played a role in the organization’s media monitoring efforts. He also contributed to the team’s game notes by composing and editing the starting pitching page on a day-to-day basis. DeVita served as an editorial assistant for Mets Magazine and his writing was featured in multiple issues of the publication.
Prior to the Mets, DeVita spent time at St. Francis Brooklyn as an Athletic Communications Assistant. He was the primary contact for women’s basketball and women’s water polo. His duties included composing press releases, game notes, game programs and pre and postgame stories, which were featured on SFCAthletics.com. DeVita was in charge of creating the 2015-16 official media guide for the women’s basketball team. He also coordinated and moderated interviews with members of the media, players and coaches. DeVita contributed to the program’s social media efforts via Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. During his tenure with St. Francis Brooklyn, he traveled with the women’s basketball team.
While at St. Francis Brooklyn, DeVita also worked part-time for the Brooklyn Nets where he was a member of their Public Relations game night staff. In his role with the Nets, DeVita assisted senior management in all aspects related to the department. He provided members of the media with statistical information and transcribed quotes from players and coaches.
His career started in the New York Rangers Public Relations department as a Student Associate in January 2015, when the team made a run to the 2015 Eastern Conference Finals. He has also held a part-time role with the USTA during the 2015 U.S. Open as a player escort.
DeVita earned his Bachelor’s degree in Communication Arts from St. Francis Brooklyn in May of 2015. As an undergraduate, he served as the President of Lambda Pi Eta Communications Honor Society and was the Sports Editor of the college’s student body newspaper, SFC Today.
