WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – For the second-consecutive week, the Monmouth University field hockey team earned a spot in the top-20 in the NCAA Rating Percentage Index (RPI) Rankings, landing 19th in the latest poll, released this week. Off to one of the best starts in program history, the Hawks stand at 8-2 with one non-league game to go before Metro Atlantic Athletic (MAAC) play commences on October 7th when Siena visits West Long Branch.
The RPI is a quantity used to rank teams based upon a team's wins and losses and its strength of schedule.
“It's amazing making program history with this team now being in the national conversation,” said head coach Carli Figlio. “To boot, having this team be in the top-20 two weeks in a row at 14 and now 19 is a total credit to the work and dedication of these players. We are excited about the future and look forward to getting back to work for this weekend’s game.”
As a team, Monmouth currently ranks in the top-10 in six statistical categories. The Hawks are first in the country in defensive saves (13), second in shutouts per game (0.50), third in save percentage (0.813), sixth in winning percentage (.800), ninth in penalty corners per game (7.90) and 10th in goals against average (1.40).
The Hawks will close out their non-league schedule this Sunday, October 2nd when they host Cornell at noon.
