CHANDLER, AZ – Monmouth University junior goalkeeper Christen Piersanti (Bridgewater, NJ/ Bridgewater-Raritan) was named a National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Player of the Week, honorable mention, the organization announced Wednesday.  Piersanti, who was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, ran her scoreless streak to over 214 minutes after posting shutouts against Lafayette and Georgetown last weekend.

“What a tremendous honor for Christen who has anchored our stellar defense so far this year,” commented head coach Carli Figlio.  “She has worked on her speed and skill and I am happy to see her get recognized on a national level. We look forward to seeing her continue to put in work and help the team reach all its goals.”

Piersanti, who has recorded three-straight shutouts and has seven career clean sheets, turned away all eight shots that were directed towards her cage.  The Bridgewater, NJ native withstood all 21 defensive corners, including 15 against Lafayette.  She becomes the first Hawk goalkeeper to record three straight shutouts since the 2010 season.  Piersanti’s 0.25 goals against average and 0.933 save percentage both rank second in the country.

Piersanti and the Hawks hit the road this upcoming weekend when they travel to Kent, Ohio for meetings with Kent State (September 9th; 12 p.m.) and Iowa (September 10th, 12 p.m.).
