HOLYROOD PARK, EDINBURGH – A late dash from Iona College alum Leonard Korir helped seal first place in the Great Edinburgh Cross Country men's 8K race in 24:03. In the process, Korir helped Team USA win the 8k race in Edinburgh for the fifth straight year.

Korir edged out Great Britain’s Callum Hawkins by one second to claim in the individual title. The former Gael joined the leaders shortly after the 3k marker and fought through the final straightaway to emerge with the victory. Video of the finish can be viewed on FloTrack.org.

Team USA won the overall meet title with 149 points, with full results provided here.

Korir was a standout performer for the Maroon & Gold during the 2010-11 and 2011-12 academic years for both the cross country and track and field programs. The Kenya native was a two-time National Champion with a victory at the 2011 NCAA Indoor 5k race followed by a win at the Outdoor Championships 10k. He was also an eight-time All-American and six-time MAAC Champion.

Korir competed for the USA during the 2016 Rio Olympics, finishing 14th in the 10k race and the second member of Team USA across the line.
