2017 MAAC Men's & Women's Cross Country Championship Preview

EDISON, NJ – The 2017 MAAC Men’s & Women’s Cross Country Championships take place tomorrow, Saturday, October 28 at Holmdel Park, NJ. Monmouth University is co-hosting this year’s championship. Holmdel Park served as the championship site for the 2014 MAAC Cross Country Championships, where both the Iona College men’s and women’s cross country teams were victorious.
The women’s 6K race begins at 11:00 a.m. and the men’s 8K race starts at noon.
The Iona men’s cross country team seeks its 27th consecutive championship. Iona’s Chartt Miller has finished in the top-10 at the last three MAAC Cross Country Championships, recording his career-best 8k time back in 2015, when he ran a 23:44.5 and finished third. At Holmdel Park in 2014, Miller finished seventh with a time of 25:31.21.
On the women’s side, Iona won the 2016 MAAC Women’s Cross Country Championship, dethroning the previous champion, Quinnipiac University. The Gaels won its 12th championship in program history.
Canisius College junior Siobhan Quinn, the defending individual champion from 2016 looks to become the first back-to-back female individual champion since Iona’s Kate Avery did so in 2013 and 2014.
