2017 MAAC Women's Soccer Conference Notes

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL –
The 2017 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women’s Soccer Championship takes place, October 28-November 1, and returns to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, in Lake Buena Vista, FL for the first time since 2013. Major award winners and All-MAAC First, Second, and Rookie teams are to be announced at the 2017 MAAC Women’s Soccer Awards Banquet on Monday, October 30, from the Indiana Jones attraction in Hollywood Studios.
 
Broadcast Schedule:
ESPN3 will stream seven of the 10 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship games. All of the games that are slated to be broadcasted are to be played on Field 17. The games that are set to air on ESPN3 include, two first round matchups, on Saturday, October 28, the first being No. 6 Rider and No. 11 Saint Peter’s at 11:00 a.m., followed by No. 8 Niagara and No. 9 Canisius at 2:00 PM. No. 2 Manhattan and the winner of No. 7 Fairfield and No. 10 Iona are featured on ESPN3 in quarterfinal action on Sunday, October 29, at 11:15 a.m., followed by No. 1 Monmouth and the winner of No. 8 Canisius and No. 9 Niagara. Both semifinal games on Tuesday, October 31 and the Championship final on Wednesday, November 1 airs on ESPN3.

First Round Games:
hOURglass Take Two: First Round action begins on Saturday, October 28, with No. 6 Rider University (4-9-3, 4-3-3 MAAC) and No. 11 Saint Peter’s University (3-12-1, 1-8-1 MAAC) going head-to-head at 11:00 a.m. from Field 17 on ESPN3. The Broncs knocked off the Peacocks in their regular season “hOURglass” meeting, 3-0, on September 20 in Lawrenceville, NJ.
 
Time to Play the Game: The second first round matchup is No. 7 Fairfield University (6-9-1, 4-5-1 MAAC) and No. 10 Iona College (3-13-2, 2-7-1 MAAC) at 12:30 p.m. on Field 18. The Stags hold the regular season advantage after they earned a 2-0 victory over the Gaels on September 20 in Fairfield, CT.
 
Battle of the Bridge: The third and final first round game features a postseason edition of the “Battle of the Bridge”. No. 8 Niagara University (7-8-2, 3-6-1 MAAC) and No. 9 Canisius College (7-8-2, 2-6-2 MAAC) at 2:00 p.m. from Field 17 on ESPN3. The Griffs defeated the Purple Eagles, 1-0, in the regular season on October 4, in Niagara University, NY.
 
Quarterfinal Games
Familiar Foe: Day two of the 2017 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship, Sunday, October 29, has four quarterfinal matches on tap. The first quarterfinal matchup is between a pair of rivals, No. 4 Siena College (10-7, 6-4 MAAC) and No. 5 Marist College (8-7-3, 5-3-2 MAAC) at 2:00 p.m. from Field 18. Siena earned a 2-0 win over Marist on October 4, in Loudonville, NY.
 
Waiting in the Wings: No. 1 Monmouth (12-3-2, 9-1 MAAC), No. 2 Manhattan College (8-6-3, 6-2-2 MAAC), and No. 3 Quinnipiac University (8-6-3, 5-2-3 MAAC) quarterfinal opponents will be determined based on the results of the first round games played on Saturday, October 28. No. 2 Manhattan faces the winner of No. 7 Fairfield and No. 10 Iona at 11:15 a.m. from Field 17 on ESPN3. No. 3 Quinnipiac takes on the winner of No. 6 Rider and No. 11 Saint Peter’s at 11:00 a.m. from Field 18. No. 1 Monmouth plays the winner of No. 8 Niagara and No. 9 Canisius at 2:15 p.m. from Field 17 on ESPN3.
 
Semifinals & Championship
Winners Circle: Semifinals are played on Tuesday, October 31, at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. from Field 17. Both games are on ESPN3. The 2017 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship game is on Wednesday, November 1, at 12:00 p.m. from Field 17 on ESPN3.
 
Disney Championship History: This year’s Women’s Soccer Championship, marks the fifth time in conference history that the event is held in Disney. The MAAC along with Walt Disney World Resorts, enters its 19th year of hosting MAAC Championships in Lake Buena Vista, FL, as part of the conference’s mission to provide the best experience for its student-athletes and its fans. The sports included in the rotation to be held at ESPN Wide World of Sports include Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, Women’s Soccer, and Volleyball.
 
Seed-by-Seed: Since 2007 the No. 1 overall seed has claimed the MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship four times, the most of any seed over the past 10 years. The No. 3 seed captured the next most championships over the 10-year span with three.
