Fairfield's Day, Niagara's Hunt & Iona's Smith Named MAAC Volleyball Weekly Award Recipients

Player of the Week
Skyler Day, Fairfield

Skyler Day averaged 4.75 kills and 3.25 digs per set in a pair of MAAC road matches this past weekend. Her performance was highlighted by a career-best 30 kills (the most for a MAAC student-athlete this season) on .235 hitting and a career-high 23 digs in a five-set triumph over Niagara University. She also posted eight kills and three digs in a 3-0 sweep of Canisius College. Day takes home the MAAC Player of the Week honor for the second time this season.
 
Libero of the Week
Rylee Hunt, Niagara

Rylee Hunt claims the MAAC Libero of the Week award for the fourth time this season. The senior averaged 7.12 digs per set and had a perfect reception percentage in two matches for the Purple Eagles. Hunt had a match-high 15 digs, three assists, and one ace in Niagara’s sweep of Quinnipiac University on Saturday, September 30, to extend its winning streak to eight matches. Hunt had 42 digs, three assists, and two kills in five-sets against Fairfield on Sunday, October 1. Hunt’s career-high 42 digs are the most in the MAAC this season and are two shy of tying a program record. Hunt is now fourth in the NCAA with 6.13 digs per set.
 
Rookie of the Week
Jamie Smith, Iona
Fr., S, Massapequa, NY/Massapequa
 
Jamie Smith is now a four-time MAAC Rookie of the Week, as she earns the award for the third week in a row. Smith helped Iona College to a 2-1 conference record last week, she recorded 2.50 kills, 1.86 digs, and 1.43 assists per set. The freshman added four aces and seven blocks. In five sets at Rider University to open the week, the Massapequa native posted nine kills, 11 assists, 11 digs, and two aces in the effort. She then led the team with 19 kills in a five-set win at Siena College to go along with eight digs and three total blocks. Smith added three blocks in four sets at Marist College on Sunday, October 1, in addition to seven kills and two aces.
