Nine MAAC Schools Compete in NCAA Cross Country Regional Championships
EDISON, NJ – Seven MAAC schools competed in the Northeast Regional in Buffalo, NY and two MAAC schools took part in the Mid-Atlantic Regional in Bethlehem, PA. The Iona College men earned their 17
th straight automatic bid to the NCAA Championships with their performance in Buffalo, NY this afternoon.
Mid-Atlantic Regional Women’s 6k
- Monmouth finished 20th overall as a team with 588 points while Rider finished with 742 points in 26th place.
- Monmouth Senior Allie Wilson recorded a time of 21:41.2, leading the way for the Hawks.
- Rider was led by sophomore Peri Pavicic who ran a 22:17.1.
Northeast Regional Women’s 6k
- Iona finished sixth overall, which was a three spot improvement from last year’s finish.
- 2017 MAAC Cross Country Most Outstanding Female Runner, Iona sophomore Egle Morenaite finished in seventh place with a time of 21:55.8.
- Canisius junior Siobhan Quinn placed 27th with a time of 22:32.0, Iona’s freshman Sophie Murphy and junior Julia Kearley finished 13th and 22nd respectively.
- Morenaite, Murphy, and Kearly earned All-Region honors.
Mid-Atlantic Regional Men’s 10k
- Monmouth finished 18th overall behind the effort of junior Kyle Mueller who ran the 10k in 31:42.7.
- Rider finished in 23rd place with their top finisher senior Daniel Belay running the 10k in 32:30.5.
Northeast Regional Men’s 10k
- Iona, Canisius, Marist, and Manhattan all finished within the top-20 as a team.
- Iona’s Johannes Motschmann finished third with a 31:47.9 in the 10k while teammates junior Liam Dee (seventh) and senior Gilbert Kirui (ninth) also finished in the top 10.
- 2017 MAAC Most Outstanding Male Runner, Iona senior Andrew Tario finished 17th with a time of 32:27.8.
- Motschmann, Dee, Kirui, Tario, and Graduate Student Chartt Miller earned All-Region honors.
