Monmouth & Fairfield Set to Meet in 2017 MAAC Field Hockey Championship Game

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – With 6-0 defeat of LIU Brooklyn in the first semifinal of the 2017 MAAC Field Hockey Championship, the Fairfield Stags advanced to the championship game for the third consecutive season. Senior Hannah Pike recorded a hat trick and Andrea Soler, Jamie Appelberg and Danielle Profita all scored a goal in the victory for the Stags. Fairfield last won the MAAC Field Hockey Championship in 2015. The six goals scored by Fairfield are tied for the most in the MAAC Field Hockey Championship since Monmouth scored six goals in the 2014 championship game, when Monmouth defeated Rider 6-1.
 
Monmouth knocked off Rider 2-0 in the second semifinal contest of the day. Senior Meg Donahue scored on a penalty stroke and Rachel Konowal scored in the second half to secure the victory for the Hawks. Rider’s Lena Vandam, the 2017 MAAC Field Hockey Co-Goalkeeper of the Year posted nine saves in the defeat. Monmouth competes in its third MAAC Field Hockey Championship game in program history.
 
The 2017 MAAC Field Hockey Championship Game airs live, this Sunday, November 5 live on ESPN3 at noon. The Hawks and the Stags meet in a championship rematch from a year ago. Fairfield defeated Monmouth 3-1 back on October 6, handing the Hawks its lone conference loss this season. Monmouth claimed the 2016 MAAC Field Hockey Championship when they defeated Fairfield 3-2 in double OT.
