Monmouth’s Garden Bachop, Laszlo & Rider’s Cunningham Earn All-ECAC Honors
DANBURY, CT – Three Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Field Hockey student-athletes received All-ECAC honors, as announced by the organization on Thursday.
Monmouth senior defender Julie Laszlo was named to the All-ECAC First Team along with Rider University senior defender Melissa Cunningham. Laszlo earned 2017 MAAC Field Hockey Player of the Year and MAAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year honors. Laszlo was also named to the All-MAAC First Team. The senior defender led the MAAC in points (39), points per game (2.05), total assists (23), and assists per game (1.21). Laszlo ranked first in the nation in assists (23) and assists per game (1.21). Her eight goals on the season ranked tied for sixth in the MAAC. Laszlo was named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week twice in 2017 (September 12 & 19).
Cunningham was named to the All-MAAC First Team. The senior defender helped anchor a defense that led the conference in defensive saves (11), allowed the second fewest goals (30), and goals per game (1.58). Cunningham totaled five points on the season with two goals and one assist. She was tied for league lead in defensive saves (six).
Monmouth junior forward Georgia Garden Bachop was named to the All-MAAC First Team and received an honorable mention from the ECAC. Bachop was third in the league in goals (10), goals per game (0.53), tied for fourth in points (24), and tied for 10
th in assists per game (0.21). Garden Bachop received MAAC Defensive Player of the Week on September 26.
