Monmouth Selected as Favorites in Both MAAC Men’s & Women’s Indoor Track & Field Preseason Coaches’ Polls
EDISON, NJ – Monmouth University men’s and women’s indoor track & field teams were selected as Preseason favorites by the league’s head coaches’ heading into the 2017-18 season.
The Hawks are led by 2017 Men’s Track Most Outstanding Performer, Bryan Sosoo who enters his senior season. The Hawks have won three of the last four MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, as they fell just three points shy of last year’s title. In the 2017-18 Indoor Track & Field Preseason Coaches’ Poll, Monmouth received 61 total points and six first place votes. Behind Monmouth is Rider University, who earned 57 total points and two first place votes. Manhattan College rounded out the top three with 46 points in the poll.
Iona College trailed the Jaspers with 44 points, followed by Saint Peter’s University in fifth with 25 points. Canisius College was tabbed sixth with 22 points, Marist College followed in seventh with 17 points, and eighth is Siena College with 16 points.
At the 2017 MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships Rider edged Monmouth by three points (149-146) on the men’s side. The Monmouth women finished first and clinched its fourth-straight MAAC Indoor Track & Field title.
The Monmouth women held the lead throughout the 2017 Indoor Track & Field Championships, en route to its 208.5 point performance. Returning this season are Women’s Field Most Outstanding Performer, Casey Sturts and Women’s Field Rookie of the Meet Jordan Wildermuth. Monmouth received 79 points and seven first place votes.
The Hawks are followed by Rider, who received 72 total points and two first place votes. Manhattan was selected third with 63 points, while Quinnipiac placed fourth with 56 points. Iona received 44 points, which placed them ahead of Marist who received 23 points. Canisius and Saint Peter’s rounded out the poll with 17 and 14 points respectively.
The 2018 MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships returns to the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center in New York, NY for the 15
