Fairfield University Faces Boston University in 2017 NCAA Field Hockey Championship Opening Round Action
EDISON, NJ – The 2017 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Field Hockey Champions, Fairfield University, heads to Boston, MA to take on the Boston University Terriers for an NCAA Field Hockey Championship Opening Round contest on Wednesday, November 8 at 1pm. The game will be streamed on the
Patriot League Network.
For the second time in three years, Fairfield University claimed the MAAC Field Hockey Championship. Led by senior Hannah Pike’s two goals, the third seeded Stags defeated top seeded Monmouth University, 2-1, in the 2017 MAAC Field Hockey Championship Game. Pike was named MAAC Field Hockey Championship Most Valuable Player. She combined for five goals over two games in the MAAC Field Hockey Championship to earn MVP honors. Pike now has nine goals on the season.
The Stags and the Terriers meet in a rematch of the 2015 NCAA Field Hockey Championship Play-In Game. Fairfield placed three members on the 2017 MAAC Field Hockey All-Championship team: Jaclyn Gallagher, Cassie Hughes and MAAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year, Erin Buckley, with Pike taking home MVP honors. This is the third NCAA Tournament appearance in program history for Fairfield (2001, 2015, 2017) under the direction of head coach Jackie Kane.
